The CSN in Numbers

The CSN represents more than 320,000 workers in nearly 2,000 unions. At the CSN, unions are grouped together on a sectoral or professional basis, within federations. There are eight federations:

• CSN–Construction: over 8,900 members
• Federation of Industry and Manufacturing (FIM–CSN): over 20,500 members
• Federation of Health and Social Services (FSSS–CSN): over 132,000 members
• Federation of Public Service Employees (FEESP–CSN): over 57,000 members
• Federation of Professionals (FP–CSN): over 8,100 members
• Commerce Federation (FC–NS): over 27,000 members
• National Communications and Culture Federation (FNCC–CSN): over 6,700 members
• National Federation of Québec Teachers (FNEEQ–CSN): nearly 35,000 members

In addition to these federations, the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers (UCCO-SACC-CSN), with more than 6,500 members across Canada, is also directly affiliated with the Federation.

Union life in the regions is based on Regional Councils, which bring together all CSN unions within their respective areas. There are thirteen Regional Councils across Québec.

At the CSN, each union has its own certificate of accreditation and manages union life within its organizations. This means that each union negotiates its own collective agreement and determines the means to be used to achieve its negotiating objectives.
